What Managers Do

What makes a great manager? It's a question that is often at the heart of a company's success. Managers with great skills work in organizations with reputatons as good places to work such as the "100 Best Companies to Work for in Amercia" which have been found to generate superior financial performance. While it goes without saying that a successful company almost always has successful managers, the question of what makes a truly great manager isn't always so clear.

We have come to understand that technical skills are necessary, but they are not enough to succeed in management. In today's increasingly competitive, diversified and demanding workplace, managers can't succeed on their technical skills alone. They must also possess excellent people and communication skills. Even so, many of today's managers achieved their positions initially based on technical skills that allowed them to achieve success in non-managerial roles. This presents a major challenge for them and their companies.

The question of whether or not the skills needed to achieve success in their previous role are transferrable to a new role as manager can first be determined by examining what exactly is it that managers do. This is a critical question to answer because as a manager they will be responsible for the performance of others and not jus themselves. The role reversal and new requirements can be challenging to not just the new manager, but to their subordinates and the company itself.

During Train Me Today's What Managers Do this question and many others will be addressed. The program is a hands on, interactive and eye opening experience and a must attend for a company's present and future management team.
